Serial number
A serial number for all units is assigned by manufacturing unless a customer serial number is required.
If a customer serial number is required, the Requires Customer Serial Number? check box must be selected, and then that customer serial number displays on the units.
If the Customer Serial Number check box is selected, you must specify if the customer serial format will be the same for all order specifications or if you are going to customize further.
- If only one customer serial format will be used, check the applicable box and define the format on this tab. All orders for this customer will use this format. After you select the Customer Serial Format for all order specs check box, the fields to define that format display and you can fill in the data.
- If more than one serial number format needs to be defined for a particular customer, then the format should be defined at the order specification level. If you define only one format, and then at a later date decide to define more than one, any order specifications that have previously been defined will have to be retroactively edited.
A Commodity Code is a customer part number. By using a commodity code, you can sync a customer part number with a Sensus part number.
If the Product Line is an electric product, you also need to define the Meter ID. The
meter ID is based on a manufacturing or a customer serial number and you define the start and
length.
- If manufacturing serial number is selected, the meter ID is based on the manufacturing barcode.
- If customer serial number is selected, the meter ID is based on the customer serial number that you define in the system.
If the Product Line is specifically Electric, you must also define a manufacturing serial number format.
